Dr Lee Duffield

Lee Duffield is a retired journalist with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and former academic at the Queensland University of Technology. He lives in Brisbane, where he is chairman and media editor on the online publication Independent Australia, an advisory board member of the academic journal Pacific Journalism Review, and a member of the University of Queensland Senate, elected by graduates of the university.
He was the first news editor on the ABC youth network JJJ, and European Correspondent at the Berlin Wall. His doctoral thesis (JCU, 2003) examined media in historical crises, in the case of the fall of the Eastern bloc in Europe. He has numerous publications, on European affairs, new media, and development journalism particularly in the South Pacific region. He is preoccupied with maritime affairs and spends as much time as possible in boats.
